“If you think education is expensive, try ignorance.”
Andy McIntyre

The labour party believes that access to a good education is a right, not a privilege. With a fairer system and a level playing field, we ensure not only the future of our students but the future of our nation.

A unified National Education Service (NES) will ensure cradle-to-grave learning that is free at the point of use.

We will

· Make primary education genuinely free of charge, including free schoolbooks, a uniform grant and access to healthy meals.

· Reduce class sizes to less than 30 for all 5,6 and 7-year-olds

· Introduce flexible school starting times to assist working parents and reduce congestion at peak times.

· Tackle the teacher recruitment and retention crisis by ending the public sector pay gap, reducing monitoring and bureaucracy and giving teachers more involvement in the curriculum.

The average student now graduates from university, and starts their working life, with debts of £44,000.

We will

· Introduce free, lifelong education in Further Education (FE) colleges, enabling everyone to upskill or retrain at any point in life

· Scrap university tuition fees

The labour party. An investment in education is an investment in our future.
